NARS adds to 413 BLKR collection on FNO
NARS photo
NARS celebrates Fashion's Night Out tomorrow with the introduction of two new additions to its 413 BLKR collection.
Founder and creative director François Nars drew inspiration from New York City when creating the line named for the brand’s West Village flagship boutique.
The richly pigmented products are a Duo Eyeshadow in shimmering amethyst and black with red pearl ($34), and a Velvet Matte lip pencil ($24) in vivid pink with golden shimmer. True to its name, the lip pencil goes on velvety smooth with deep, saturated and seductive color.
Get it online beginning Sept. 6 online at narscosmetics.com, at the NARS flagship and and FNO retailers: Saks Fifth Avenue, Henri Bendel, Barneys New York, Lord & Taylor, and Bloomingdale’s.
I'll definitely be wearing it on FNO!
Keep up with NYFW via livestreamed shows
New York Fashion Week's runway shows start tomorrow and now anyone can have a front-row seat thanks to livestreaming.
IMG will be making live stream and video on-demand content from Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week in New York available on YouTube, starting with Nicholas K's show at 9 a.m. (3 a.m. Hawaii time).
"Live From the Runway" (youtube.com/liverunway) will presents more than 30 live-streaming fashion shows and on-demand content, while keeping eauty and fashion enthusiasts up-to-date with show schedules, backstage beauty looks, insider interviews, trends and how-to videos.
It's so much easier than figuring out how to get from Point A to Point B with back-to-back shows, enduring lines and sore feet, and your view is guaranteed to be as good as Anna Wintour's, though she's more likely to be spotted at shows off-site.
Now you just have to sleep late or wake up early, or just catch all the shows of the days' rebroadcast.

Beats that inspire
In advance of New York Fashion Week starting this week, the New York Times shared some of the playlists that inspire the designers: www.nytimes.com/interactive/2012/09/04/fashion/fashion-week-designer-music.html
It's fun to compare what's on our own iPods. If you ever suffer from creative block, maybe a change of music will give your brain a boost. Anything that spurs creativity is welcome. So what's on your iPod?

Kristi Yamaguchi's Tsu.ya clothing line to debut

Kristi Yamaguchi will launch her activewear line during Fashion's Night Out at Lord & Taylor, New York.
Among the celebrities participating in “Fashion’s Night Out” at Lord and Taylor's Fifth Avenue flagship store Sept. 6 will be Olympic gold medalist Kristi Yamaguchi, who will be launching her activewear clothing line, Tsu.ya, and signing complimentary tote bags from the line.
I caught up with the skater-turned-designer during a phone interview prior to the Olympic games this year, and here's the story that appeared in the paper Aug. 2, under the headline, "After Olympian feats, earthly life resumes":
"All the athletes at the London Olympics are focused on the moment when they can bring home the gold to their respective countries. Without a plan for life after the games, what happens next is often far less heroic. You might see these elite athletes endorsing cereal or sandwiches, rubbing elbows with costumed characters at Disneyland or, like Bruce Jenner, playing dad to a passel of Kardashians.
Kristi Yamaguchi empathizes. The 1992 Olympic gold medal winner in women's figure skating said she was single-minded in her goal from childhood.
"I was just into the sport and focused on the task at hand, especially at the Olympic level. It's only every four years when you have that showcase, so there's so much focus on that moment. I did try to do as well as I could in school so there would be options after my skating career," she said by phone from her Northern California home.
Even so, Yamaguchi said serious thoughts about a post-Olympic career didn't start "until I was there. I was only 20 at the Olympics (in Albertville, France). When you're that age, you feel you have the whole world in front of you."

Beauty spot: Clean up fine lines with Clarins
I've written about the wonderful smoothing effect of Clarins Instant Smooth Perfecting Touch, that works like face spackle, minimizing the look of oversized pores. The brand has come up with something similar in an even richer formula. Clarins Instant Smooth Line-Correcting Concentrate comes in a slim, purse-friendly, smooth-tipped wand, allowing the Dermaxyl line-correcting peptide to be applied directly onto lines, wrinkles and enlarged pores throughout the day to keep your complexion looking smoother.
I tried it on some of the fine lines under my eyes, going over lightly with my fingertip and finding it seamlessly filling in some of the enlarged pores in my cheeks, with no cakey effect.
Note that it's more of a line filler than an active solution, so you can't expect it to lead skin improvement over time. But I'll take appearances, and let my other serums do their handiwork at night.
It works best with fine lines, not crevasses, but chances are that when you see the results, you'll cut the frowning that led to those canyons in the first place!
Get it ut Nordstrom for $32.50, or find it online at www.clarinsusa.com.

Beauty spot: Kat Von D's 'Everlasting' lip color
With party season starting up, you're probably looking for lip color that lasts. You don't want to miss out on any action while dashing off to the ladies room or looking down into a mirror. It's bad enough that you're always looking down at your phone, a motion that I learned from my massage therapist can lead to a big pain in the neck.
I've found that Kat Von D is one brand that offers the magic combination of staying power and natural-looking color with its Everlasting Liquid Love lipstick. Honestly, if you pick the right color, it'll look like you were born with fuller, sensuous lips.
It's a lipstick with a liquid formula that goes on like a gloss for smooth, precise application. When applying, just remember that a little goes a long way. It dries in a minute or two to a matte, velvety finish. Once applied, there's no need to worry about smudging or migrating.
If you want to turn up the shine, apply a clear gloss over it. There are six exclusive shades available at Sephora, for $18 each. The color shown here is Lolita, a sexy dusty rose.
The only downside is the smell, which is like a new leather upholstery or new car smell. It disappears once the lipstick is applied, but you definitely do not want to be licking your lips much when it's on.
