Nordstrom Rack opens in Waikiki

Nordstrom Rack photos
A new Nordstrom Rack will open its doors at 9 a.m. Sept. 1.

It's a crazy time with President Obama in town causing tie-ups in traffic, the specter of hurricanes and mercury retrograde in effect, but Hawaii people love a grand opening and they keep coming.

Following openings of the International Market Place and its dozens of shops and restaurants, a new Nordstrom Rack will open its doors at neighboring Waikiki Trade Center at 9 a.m. Sept. 1.

Festivities begin at 8 a.m. with music, coffee and breakfast treats. There will also be a raffle giveaway of 30 $100 gift cards, plus, one lucky winner will score a $1,000 shopping spree through the retailers "Rule the Rack" sweepstakes, with drawing taking place at 8:25 a.m.

If lines outside the new Foodland Farms Ala Moana Center this morning are an indication, people won't be able to stay away.

A peek at the new store's interior.

Jason Wu's Miss Wu collection debuts at Nordstrom

Nordstrom photos
Jason Wu's new contemporary label Miss Wu, has arrived at Nordstrom.

Can't wait to check out Jason Wu’s new contemporary label Miss Wu, launched at Nordstrom.

I only have the photos and press release, but want to check this out firsthand.

The debut Spring/Summer 2013 collection comprises 40 pieces, including dresses, knits and separates priced between $195 and $795. (Prices for his regular line start at about $695.)

The collection is described as bearing a subtle 1960s inspiration, showcasing some of Wu’s signatures, including whimsical prints and bold colors, including a hand-painted stripe print on blouses and skirts. Feminine embellishments include embroidered sequin circles and lace prints on tops and dresses. Other prints for Miss Wu include a “falling feather” print, a blue Pop Art print, and a photo negative floral print in shirts, shift dresses and A-line dresses.

The designer is known for feminine detailing, reflected in the line through bow blouses and grosgrain-collared shirts that can be paired with jackets with leather details for a touch of toughness.

Topshop and Topman coming to Nordstrom

Photos courtesy Nordstrom
Designs from Topshop and Topman are coming to Nordstrom.

Anglophiles rejoice! Nordstrom announced today that it will be launching Topshop and Topman at 14 Nordstrom stores—including the Ala Moana store—and on Nordstrom.com beginning the week of Sept. 10.

Nordstrom will become the only large U.S. retailer to sell a broad assortment of the British fashion brands’ merchandise in-store and online. Otherwise, you would've had to go online or head to New York, Chicago or Las Vegas to shop this side of the Atlantic. (A Los Angeles outpost will open in Spring 2013).

Nordstrom will carry a full selection of the hottest looks for both men and women, as well as limited-edition pieces exclusive to Nordstrom. An expanded merchandise selection will also be available on nordstrom.com.

Topshop and Topman are known for an individualistic, eclectic approach to style, with an aesthetic that's not for fashion wallflowers or beginners. It'll be interesting to watch how people incorporate the pieces into their wardrobes and see if it injects a little more life into street fashion.

Can't wait to see the collection! I love Brit style.
