A scarf by textile artist Akihiko Izukura. Textile enthusiasts have the opportunity to create their own at Hawai'i Fashion Month workshops.
Renowned natural fiber and textile artist Akihiko Izukura, from Japan, will offer a hands-on experience with his “Zero-Waste” design philosophy during a Hifi Coop popup event at OUTFIT Oct. 2 and 3, Hawai'i Fashion Month's two-day industry and public tradeshow taking place underneath T.J. Maxx.
Izukura’s pieces incorporate netting, braiding, weaving and entwining techniques, all passed down from his family, a line of master silk weavers for the imperial family of Japan.
A silk scarf workshop takes place from noon to 1 p.m. Oct. 2 in the Hifi Lounge at OUTFIT. Learn

OUTFIT will be open from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. on the 2nd, and 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on the third, to industry professionals, with free registration for buyers and industry representatives at www.outfithawaii.com. Doors will open to the public at 1 p.m. both days, with general admission of $3. OUTFIT will also host runway shows each day at 1 and 3 p.m. and workshops by Art & Flea. Izukura will showcase 20 of his pieces in a gallery installation.
