Another teaser

Taizo Braden's mild-mannered, conservative before.

If you watch Hawaii News Now at 5 and "Sunrise," maybe you've noticed the lively Taizo Braden, who presents all the traffic updates to get commuters out the door with a plan of attack.

Maybe you've also noticed he's a relatively young guy, at 31, who dresses like a 45-year-old accountant or banker. A friend of his complained that's not right and told me how it's embarrassing to be seen with him in that mode.

Taizo doesn't care that much about clothes and doesn't mind that his mommy buys all his shirts. (Maybe it's all part of a grand scheme to keep him dateless.) It's kind of weird that—as much as dress is a form of expression—some guys never have the opportunity to dress themselves. They go from their mom's house, to relying on their girlfriends or wives to choose their clothes. Aside from celebs, how many American women would allow someone else to tell them what to wear?

I was doing a makeover of my co-worker, entertainment writer Gary Chun, anyway, to mark the grand opening of Forever21 and the introduction to Hawaii of its 21Men line, so what's one more makeover? The idea was that you don't have to be 21 to look age appropriate shopping the line, and this is the first time men in Hawaii have access to the fast-fashion that has been available to women for years.

Also open since last fall is the men's boutique Noteworthy, and we headed there with Taizo as well. Results in tomorrow's paper!
